Going into the problem, all categories was replaced by 2,2,2 and so on. What? Luckily enough I have a back-up that will save the day by manually placing those values on categories and blogroll links. And now categories are working again and so the blogroll but what heck happened when I try to view a single post? It is blank. Nada. Have check all the files I have uploaded and seems all are fine.

Went through the theme and tried changing it to a new one, and viola! it works. Now I can see the post and pages intact.

If you are using wordpress 2.3 or 2.5, you don’t need to have an .htaccess code to redirect your non-www site to www to avoid duplicate urls. the latest version of wordpress is already doing this and already incorporated on the code of WP. This is far that I have seen when i have implemented it on my of my blog.

What are the consequences of this if you again redirect the latest wordpress that is already redirecting the site to www version? Remember DMOZ? when their main page was out of the google index. They are redirecting permanently the www version to their own www version of the site, 301 redirect. That means if bot is going into the site www version it is again being redirected to its www version leaving bot to give up on an infinite loop of redirection.

This scenario happened to me and only then I have noticed when I checked and removed the www but still redirecting it to www version.

Resolution: Removed the line on .htaccess permanent redirect (301) to www and let the  alone the hardcode piece on Wordpress. The site now back to index.

Currently it is offered only on US but you can sign-up and receive update if they will be available internationally. But searching it on MSN shows no results but just backlinks to the site. A further verification shows me this data.

MSN is indexing google translate - translated pages.  Going to the url that is indexed yields to the translated pages on the language that I don’t undestand that I believe a Russian translated pages.

In a bid to remain independent, Yahoo plans to reject Microsoft Corp.’s unsolicited takeover offer.Quoting sources familiar with the situation, the Journal reports that Yahoo’s board feels the offer of $31 per share “massively undervalues” the company. A letter spelling out the position is expected to be sent Monday. Yahoo also expressed concern that Microsoft’s offer does not account for risks to Yahoo should the deal be overturned by regulators.

The Journal source said the company would be unwilling to consider an offer below $40 per share, which would represent a $12 billion increase over Microsoft’s original $44.6 billion bid. It is unclear if Microsoft would be willing to increase its bid by such a significant amount.

If Microsoft is eager to buy Yahoo then a bid to up to $50 billion can make again Yahoo into hot seat to re-consider the offer. The possibility stands as we analyze how Microsoft willing to take over the next search engine giant.

Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell said the software company may issue some debt to finance the cash portion of its 50-50 stock and cash offer for Yahoo, instead of drawing down its entire $21 billion cash pile.

“It’s likely we’re actually going to borrow for the first time,” said Liddell in an annual strategy meeting with analysts before Yahoo’s apparent decision. “It’s going to be a mixture of the cash we have on hand plus debt.”

With this plan decision of Yahoo executive, I wonder how will price of shares go in the market. Google can rejoice now of this threat against their search engine.

My take,

1. On adwords and adsense issue, this might be not a good option, we know very well how a certain email account can be compromised. I have experienced this a year ago thus not actually having the same log-in password over the net.

2. Advantage to those who easily forgot different password on sites.

The time I heard about this new feature on Paypal Philippines to add or withdraw to a local bank account, I immediately check and add my bank account and tried to withdraw the funds sitting on my paypal account. All I need was my bank account information including bank code that was posted by paypal on ebay site here (philippines bank codes). And more information here.

After 5 days of waiting to my bank, finally it arrived.

Length: 2 days -Paypal Philippines said that my withdrawal process is complete. Means fund depends now on the processing on my bank to clear it.

3 days - Funds now in my account with Payroll as the memo on the deposit.

Paypal charges 50 Php or around $1.2 on withdrawal fees below Php 7,000. My bank also charges around 100 Php total of 150 Php. I see it quite fast and cheaper also compared to other option like xoom, where I regularly using. Wondering the boost of e-commerce here in the Philippines with this move from Paypal.

Our proposal represents a 62% premium above the closing price of Yahoo! common stock of $19.18 on January 31, 2008. The implied premium for the operating assets of the company clearly is considerably greater when adjusted for the minority, non-controlled assets and cash. By whatever financial measure you use - EBITDA, free cash flow, operating cash flow, net income, or analyst target prices - this proposal represents a compelling value realization event for your shareholders.

We believe that Microsoft common stock represents a very attractive investment opportunity for Yahoo!’s shareholders. Microsoft has generated revenue growth of 15%, earnings growth of 26%, and a return on equity of 35% on average for the last three years. Microsoft’s share price has generated shareholder returns of 8% during the last one year period and 28% during the last three year period, significantly outperforming the S&P 500. It is our view that Microsoft has significant potential upside given the continued solid growth in our core businesses, the recent launch of Windows Vista, and other strategic initiatives.

Microsoft’s consistent belief has been that the combination of Microsoft and Yahoo! clearly represents the best way to deliver maximum value to our respective shareholders, as well as create a more efficient and competitive company that would provide greater value and service to our customers. In late 2006 and early 2007, we jointly explored a broad range of ways in which our two companies might work together. These discussions were based on a vision that the online businesses of Microsoft and Yahoo! should be aligned in some way to create a more effective competitor in the online marketplace. We discussed a number of alternatives ranging from commercial partnerships to a merger proposal, which you rejected. While a commercial partnership may have made sense at one time, Microsoft believes that the only alternative now is the combination of Microsoft and Yahoo! that we are proposing.

In February 2007, I received a letter from your Chairman indicating the view of the Yahoo! Board that “now is not the right time from the perspective of our shareholders to enter into discussions regarding an acquisition transaction.” According to that letter, the principal reason for this view was the Yahoo! Board’s confidence in the “potential upside” if management successfully executed on a reformulated strategy based on certain operational initiatives, such as Project Panama, and a significant organizational realignment. A year has gone by, and the competitive situation has not improved.

While online advertising growth continues, there are significant benefits of scale in advertising platform economics, in capital costs for search index build-out, and in research and development, making this a time of industry consolidation and convergence. Today, the market is increasingly dominated by one player who is consolidating its dominance through acquisition. Together, Microsoft and Yahoo! can offer a credible alternative for consumers, advertisers, and publishers. Synergies of this combination fall into four areas:

Scale economics: This combination enables synergies related to scale economics of the advertising platform where today there is only one competitor at scale. This includes synergies across both search and non-search related advertising that will strengthen the value proposition to both advertisers and publishers. Additionally, the combination allows us to consolidate capital spending.

Expanded R&D capacity: The combined talent of our engineering resources can be focused on R&D priorities such as a single search index and single advertising platform. Together we can unleash new levels of innovation, delivering enhanced user experiences, breakthroughs in search, and new advertising platform capabilities. Many of these breakthroughs are a function of an engineering scale that today neither of our companies has on its own.

Operational efficiencies: Eliminating redundant infrastructure and duplicative operating costs will improve the financial performance of the combined entity.

Emerging user experiences: Our combined ability to focus engineering resources that drive innovation in emerging scenarios such as video, mobile services, online commerce, social media, and social platforms is greatly enhanced.

We would value the opportunity to further discuss with you how to optimize the integration of our respective businesses to create a leading global technology company with exceptional display and search advertising capabilities. You should also be aware that we intend to offer significant retention packages to your engineers, key leaders and employees across all disciplines.

Our proposal is subject to the negotiation of a definitive merger agreement and our having the opportunity to conduct certain limited and confirmatory due diligence. Due to the importance of these discussions and the value represented by our proposal, we expect the Yahoo! Board to engage in a full review of our proposal. NetAudioAds will begin pushing live ads out to their audio ad distribution network.Audio ads will NOT begin playing everywhere at the same time. This will be a slow, methodical ramp up until NaetAudioAds is playing ads to the complete network.Do not panic if you are not hearing audio ads right away. We are on course for what NetAudioAds is calling a soft launch. As the days progress after launch tomorrow, more and more ads will begin playing covering a wider and wider percentage of the distribution network.

So it will not instantly play if you have registered to be a publisher. There are estimating it to be of full launch about 30-60 days after this soft start.

They have also added a new function on their system.

Competing Ads…

NetAudioAds is adding a function where you can opt out from running certain kinds of audio ads on your website such as competitor ads. You will be able to do this by specifying the name or keyword of competitors (or ads) that you DO NOT want running on individual pages of your website.

You can also include keywords of ads that you DO want running on your site. This is all very preliminary and will develop over time.

I wonder how will the blogosphere or site owners go into this launch and the success of their network and including the visitors or readers of the sites if they hear some audio ads on their favorite sites.

I have also signed up to their program but not yet implementing their code. Would you think I can add those in this blog?

It’s been almost 2 years since this blog was born to participate in an seo contest previously with the keyword not even close to mention in the domain name. But still managed to be on top of the search that including, Yahoo and MSN and is still now when you search for the contest phrase.

You have something to learn when you join. You will know how competition is doing or how your competitor do the trick of blackhat to get your site down or out of the search.

Just as today, I have received a comment on one of a blog post from Aurelius Tjin, about an article on Doing many Projects as what I am doing now. My day job not on any marketing or seo field that is far from the subject actually having this scenario. I was overrun with too many projects that at end point not finishing any on a certain day and just redo everything from the start the day after the chaos.

So what I have done if my boss pass some project to me, try to classify it according. Is it urgent and important? Is it urgent but NOT important? Is it important but not urgent? And not important and not urgent at all. You can basically pin point the difference of those especially the question 2 and 3.

Also make use of a tool to track your progress and activity list to ensure that you are at the target. If you know how to use Microsoft Project, it is a good tool for creating a Project Plan.

One of the free way creating a buzz to the blogosphere that might work is challenging an established blog or power blogger in the industry. Making fun out of it but be sure to take the consequence. Other bloggers will notice that you are challenging a guy or blog they trusted thus linking your site to them(hopefully), creating a free link juice. White lies article can work but prepare for critics. Interaction between visitors and blog owners giving visitors reasons to visit your blog regularly. You can also give your regular visitor a link love as a sign of appreciation of being a loyal visitor.

Creating an informative article on the niche you are targeting. Content matters most. SEO is nothing if no article or post on your blog. This generates visitors trust thus linking to your site.

Yahoo embraces OpenID system with beta availability on January 30th.  This simply log you in to any site using OpenID system using Yahoo account. But you still needs to verify your yahoo identity by logging back in to yahoo.

Seems SE’s are slowly moving on to OpenID like before when all search engine accepts and joined for standard sitemap protocol.

Starting Feb. 1, San Diego-based V2P Communications is offering five-to-eight-second audio ads, called NetAudioAds, that will automatically play when a visitor lands on a blog or Web site. Publishers sign up for the free service and V2P then lines up advertisers, who bid on rates they will pay to have their ads played on a given blog. Bids generally start around $14 per 1,000 plays. Blog publishers get a 25% cut of the ad revenue.

This basically an additional income generating system to your site. The question is how far, they can survive in this fast emerging advertising industry that as far most dominated by Google? That I am sure will also be implemented by Google and other advertising Media at a later time.

My thoughts would be the number of advertisers that will be using their site versus the number of publishers they are at now. On focus point about audio or sound device has been turned off on visitors machine, visitors don’t have to click to hear the audio (good for publishers, but not enough for advertisers).

The pain at my end, oh well. And now checking in the possibility of how do they know the necessary information that even one of my yahoo account got compromised? Yes, one of my yahoo account got compromised too, and I cannot do anything about it and tried emailing yahoo support but they can’t help. They keep on asking me about the security question but what if the attacker changed all the information on the mail settings? Anyway, we leave it that way.

Then installed another anti-virus program and find a hacker/trojan that is residing on the system volume information on my drive C. Unfortunately, C:\\System Volume Information is hidden to the users (being used by the OS for changes). In order for me to remove the and start a new system we need to turn off the system restore option. Restart. Turn it ON again and then restart.

For my readers information, just in case it also happens to you, you find the system restore option on your windows machine. Control Panel -> System -> System Restore -> Turn -Off System Restore. Click Apply. OK, then restart you PC. Turn System Restore again, then restart. So you will have then a fresh start.

It also speeds up again my PC. Careless? I believe so, my daughter used to click everything she finds on my laptop, messing everything up! Lesson learned - Keep out of the reach of Children! lol.

Look how your competitor made it first? Think how can you supersede that place. What method and forms your competitor have been over their campaign or marketing period? How huge was the response and conversion?

Budget is always been a factor on how your marketing will go. How much are you willing to spend. Normally, today it is not on how much you are willing to spend but on how will you spend it. Free marketing can even work big time at the right place and at the right time.

How Long?

How long your marketing campaign will last? When do you think the effect of the marketing campaign will be? How long the response to the campaign?
