Wordpress 2.6.1 is out

Posted by mann3r in August 15th 2008

Wordpress 2.6.1 is out of beta now on public release. Few improvements comes with about 60 fixes most require simple change and nothing on the security issues. That is according to dev blog and if you are running 2.6 you have the choice not to upgrade if it is running smoothly.

With 2.6.1, we’re continuing our trend of releasing a maintenance release shortly after a major release in order to get fixes for the inevitable “dot zero” bugs into your hands without a long wait.  If you’re happy with 2.6, however, keep on using it.  You need not upgrade to 2.6.1 if 2.6 is getting the job done.

2.6.1 offers several improvements for international users.  Styling of the admin for right-to-left languages is much improved thanks to the efforts of the Farsi and Hebrew translation teams, and a mysterious gettext bug caused by certain PHP configurations is now fixed.  For IIS users, 2.6.1 fixes several permalink problems. Image insertion problems in the Press This feature experienced by IE users are also fixed. Of note to everyone is a fix for a performance bug in the admin where those with a lot of plugins would experience slowness on some pages.

The pain of upgrade to Wordpress 2.6

Posted by mann3r in July 31st 2008

Wordpress released its WP 2.6 version few weeks already. Have upgraded my some of my blog that are already running on a 2.5 version and the upgrade went smooth with no problems encountered. Since this blog is running previously at 2.2.3 and have the impression that upgrade will not create a problem on this blog, I went on, upgrade the blog and boom! No categories are working, blank page on the single post.

Going into the problem, all categories was replaced by 2,2,2 and so on. What? Luckily enough I have a back-up that will save the day by manually placing those values on categories and blogroll links. And now categories are working again and so the blogroll but what heck happened when I try to view a single post? It is blank. Nada. Have check all the files I have uploaded and seems all are fine.

Went through the theme and tried changing it to a new one, and viola! it works. Now I can see the post and pages intact.

This took me almost half a day figuring out what happened. Lesson? back-up first before upgrading. Check your theme if compatible to 2.6 version.

Blackhat Fish

Posted by mann3r in June 5th 2008

Blackhat Fish.Just to test some seo skills by trying to rank in google for “blackhat fish”. Checking the term in google with quotes yields one result. This is actually sponsored by Shouting Zone Community to rank a term in 18 days. Some advantages if google indexed your blog post or content fast by the time you publish the post.

An seo experiment for blackhat fish in 18 30 days is possible without dropping in thousand of links that can trigger the big G to flag it and be in penalty. This actually happened to one of my blog (just for experiment), dropping in thousand of links in just few days can really hurt your ranking if your site or blog is new to them unlike those news sites or authority sites that can easily gain backlinks for their news.

The question is how can you be creative to attract other sites to link to you. Some suggestion would be a very good content that can easily caught an attention of media, that is one. Secondly, a cool or killer design can be considered a link bait by attracting web design oriented blogs and authority sites to be listed. Third, create a controversial content (be sure you have reserves to back it up).

Why you need to learn blackhat SEO

Posted by mann3r in May 22nd 2008

I am not encouraging to do blackhat stuff but if you are into search engine optimization, you might be interested on how this stuff are being done. A reason? Well, pretty much self explanatory.

  • Know your competitors if they are doing an unethical method to your site. Competitor can really hurt your site using blackhat technique. At least you should know what method they have employed to your site like mass spam link dropping or 301 bot redirect.
  • Know how can you depend your site in with this kind of stuff.
  •  Understanding on deeply the benefit of search engine optimization using white hat versus blackhat technique.

Those are just simple explanation for you to learn blackhat but not recommended to practice on your site or clients site. If you want to learn this things you can visit one of them that I know you can learn something. Check the site here. And don’t forget to reply to my thread here (please post) that I have dragged you in there. Goodluck!

Will Google Friend Connect Boom

Posted by mann3r in May 14th 2008

The era and war on social networking is in place and now Google trying to have it down by bringing in friends fromthis social network to their application called Friend Connect.

Google Friend Connect
There are already users who was invited to take part and implement the said code snippets on their own sites.

Google Friend Connect lets you grow traffic by easily adding social features to your website. With just a few snippets of code, you get more people engaging more deeply with your site.Google Friend Connect integrates with contact lists for social networks like Facebook, orkut and Google Talk. This means users who join your site are instantly connected with friends who are already members, and can invite friends from other networks to visit. They can opt in to broadcasting their activities to friends in their social networks. A post to your message board, for example, can instantly be visible to people in multiple social networks, along with links leading to your site. These instant networks, combined with the wealth of OpenSocial gadgets, can form potent new online communities, very quickly and very easily.

I have just sing-up for free invite and let us see if they accept it.
