Just have read the long article at this post where an algorithm on Big G in response to rankings on the results of their search. We all know that google is the giant of the internet and getting millions of searches all over the globe.
I just would like to quote this paragraph on that press release at the link post above.
Freshness, which describes how many recently created or changed pages are included in a search result, is at the center of a constant debate in search: Is it better to provide new information or to display pages that have stood the test of time and are more likely to be of higher quality? Until now, Google has preferred pages old enough to attract others to link to them.
Basically, this will be the topic on which I would like to stress out the freshness of content. Another quote on the article where google engineers come up on the solution.
a mathematical model that tries to determine when users want new information and when they don’t. (And yes, like all Google initiatives, it had a name: QDF, for “query deserves freshness.”)
So with this above quotes, users on their search have already choice on whether they need such information from an old vault or to a new one. With blogs and news sites that always updated, they have applied an algorithm that determines this freshness and the relevancy through out the entire site. It is the concentration of the site on a certain topic that deals with the search ranking.
Question, how about those sites that did not update their sites like some companies where sites are static? Does it mean it will not rank? It will rank on searches by users, that where QDF comes in. And that is where incoming links comes in. We all know how links affects our rankings and this google pagerank definition.

We’ve certainly found that having a blog with fresh content has helped our rankings in google considerably. We’ve posted some of our results here - http://openconcept.ca/drupal_seo
Having our site optimized with Drupal has helped out a lot too!
