A new emerging anti spam service is on the town called Defensio - a spam filtering web service protecting blogs and web applications for comment spam and the like.
It also offers plug-ins to most of the blogging platform to control spam like the infamous wordpress. Some features you can expect as a wordpress plug-in

Curious, can both defensio and akismet be used together? Perhaps one has a strength that the other lacks . . .

nope, you need to deactivate akismet, also having to anti-spam can have some conflict, defensio is just starting up so lots of improvements will of course come
